Activity Log is an area of Facebook that shows\nall the different things you\u2019ve been doing recently. What you liked, which\nimages you uploaded, the events you engaged in, your comments, etc. This is a\ncentral hub that you should monitor frequently if you want a recap of what\nothers are seeing about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To get there, select the arrow at the very top\nright corner of Facebook, and choose Activity\nLog<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t Be aware of who you share things with on\nFacebook. When you post something, don\u2019t just choose the public option unless\nyou\u2019re absolutely sure that you want literally anyone who stumbles on your\nprofile to see the post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Instead, choose Friends<\/strong> or Specific friends <\/strong>to limit the post\u2019s visibility. You can hide your Facebook post from certain people by selecting the button under the text box; it\u2019s most likely called Friends<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t Chat is built-in to Facebook, and can let all\nyour friends know whether you\u2019re online. In fact, it’s an easy way for anyone\nto see when you\u2019re on your computer or phone at any given time, because let\u2019s\nface it, you\u2019re probably on Facebook, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you don\u2019t like others knowing when you\u2019re browsing Facebook, hide your Facebook online status by restricting it to just certain friends or going invisible to everyone. You can manage your visibility in Facebook chat from the sidebar; select the gear icon and then choose Turn Off Active Status<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t Your friends might not mind being publicly\nvisible on your Facebook profile, but if you like to stay private on Facebook,\nthey\u2019re the first that should go. Fortunately, you don\u2019t have to delete your\nFacebook friends just to hide them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Go to Privacy<\/strong>\nin the settings of your account to find the option to change who can see your\nlist of friends. Change it to certain people only or limit its visibility to\njust you. Now, anyone who visits your profile, whether they\u2019re a Facebook\nfriend or not, won\u2019t be able to snoop through who you\u2019ve added on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t If someone knows your email address or phone\nnumber that you signed up for Facebook with, they can find your profile through\na simple Facebook search. This is true even if your phone number and email\naddress aren\u2019t even visible on Facebook!<\/p>\n\n\n\n To disable these functions, open Privacy<\/strong> from settings and hit the Edit <\/strong>link to the right of both of these\nitems: Who can look you up using the\nemail address you provided?<\/strong> and Who\ncan look you up using the phone number you provided?<\/strong>. Change them to Only me<\/strong> or pick select friends that you\ntrust so that only they can do this kind of search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t Anyone looking up your name and location on\nGoogle or another search engine can most likely find your Facebook profile. It\nreally doesn\u2019t take much. Fortunately, you can prevent your Facebook profile\nfrom showing up in search engines with a single change in the settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Privacy<\/strong>,\nselect Edit<\/strong> next to Do you want search engines outside of\nFacebook to link to your profile?<\/strong>, and then uncheck the box. Confirm with\nthe Turn Off<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t Facebook is all about being social, but you\nstill have lots of control over how social you want to be. One example is the\noption to restrict who can see what other people post on your page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Some people like to send private messages\ndirectly onto public timelines. If you don\u2019t like your other friends seeing\nsuch posts, you can disable that function from Timeline and Tagging<\/strong>. Edit the Who\ncan see what others post on your timeline? <\/strong>option to set up a limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t One really annoying thing that you might have\nhappening on Facebook is that your friends can clutter up your timeline by\ntagging you in all sorts of things, maybe even pictures or videos you don\u2019t\nwant others to associate with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The way around this is to force Facebook to\nmake you review each and every post before they get added to your timeline. In Timeline and Tagging<\/strong>, edit the item\ncalled Review posts you\u2019re tagged in\nbefore the post appears on your timeline?<\/strong>. Choose Enabled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t If your mobile device is set up to give\nFacebook access to your location, you might be shocked to find out that you can\nactually go back in time to see where you were based on that information.\nFacebook uses your location for things like ads, finding Wi-Fi, locating nearby\nfriends, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although all of this information is private, it\u2019s still a bit unsettling to know that Facebook has retained it all. To delete your location data off of Facebook, open the Location History View<\/a> page, press the three-dotted menu on the upper-right side, and select Delete all location history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t\t It might take a while to finish, but once the\npage reloads, your location data will no longer be available and will restart\nfrom today onward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Staying private on Facebook is important.
