The steps below apply to Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Word 2016, and newer versions. See Viewing the Date a Word Document was Last Modified<\/a> if you use an older version of Word.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also check the document creation date in the \u201cAdvanced Properties\u201d window. Open the Properties<\/span> drop-down menu and select Advanced Properties<\/span>.\n<\/p>\n\n\n Open the Statistics<\/span> tab and check the \u201cCreated\u201d row to see the document\u2019s creation date. Select OK or Cancel to close the Advanced Properties<\/span> window.\n<\/p>\n\n\n You can check the creation date of Word documents using Windows File Explorer<\/a>. Use this method if you don\u2019t have Microsoft Word installed on your computer.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you don\u2019t see the \u201cDate modified\u201d column, right-click the Name<\/span> header, and select Date modified<\/span>.\n<\/p>\n\n\n You might see a Date created column in the folder. The information in the column describes when the document was saved\/downloaded to your computer. Proceed to step #4 to see when documents were first created in Microsoft Word.\n<\/p>\n\n\n You can also see when the document was last modified\/edited in the Date last saved<\/span> row. The Total editing time<\/span> row shows how long the author took to make changes to the document.\n<\/p>\n\n\n The Microsoft Word app homepage is another place to see the date Word documents were last modified. Open the Microsoft Word app on your computer and follow the steps below.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Microsoft Word allows you to insert the date (and time) a document was created or edited as text.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although you\u2019ll see the current date in the \u201cDate formats\u201d field, Word inserts the actual creation date in the document when you select OK<\/span>.\n<\/p>\n\n\n Word will insert a text field displaying the last time the document was saved or modified.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also insert the date the document was last printed\u2014open the text field window and choose PrintDate<\/span>. Choose a preferred date format and select OK<\/span> to close the dialog box.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
